Thailand ready for friendly in Saudi
TOR CHITTINAND
Thailand will play Saudi Arabia in Riyadh today in a friendly that could boost ties between the two countries which turned sour after the Saudi gems scancal two decades ago.
Worawi Makudi, president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), said although the game was just a friendly, it was important for the relations between the two kingdoms.
“The relations between the two countries could return to normal and the game will help strengthen that process,” Worawi said.
“In the future, the FAT will invite Saudi Arabia to play in Thailand.”
He also believes the outing will be a good one for Peter Reid’s Thailand as Saudi Arabia are considered one of the leading powerhouses in Asia.
After a training session yesterday, Reid said the game would be useful for his men to gain experience from.
He said the players were raring to go against the Saudis and wanted to beat them.
