Thailand add silvers to haul
TOR CHITTINAND
Thailand picked up two more silver medals in the athletics events at the Paralympics yesterday.
Saichon Konjen won the silver medal in the men’s 200 metres wheelchair race, while he was also in the 4×400 metres relay wheelchair team which finished second.
In the 200 metres, Saichon finished in 25.15 secs while China’s Lixin Zhang won in 24.34 secs.
The Thai relay team, with Saichon, Supachai Koysub, Prawat Wahoram and Pichet Krungget were defending champions but had to settle for silver yesterday.
They finished 5.96 secs behind winners China who broke the world record as they clocked 3:05.67 mins.
There was disappointment for Saysunee Jana when she just missed out on the bronze in the women’s individual foil wheelchair fencing competition.
In the bronze medal match she lost 15-14 to China Ye Hua.
”I am really disappointed,” she said. ”It was a really close match and I did my best.”
On Saturday, Prawat Wahoram won bronze in the men’s 800 metres wheelchair race.
