Swedes and Finn set for Thai Open

Swedes Thomas Johansson and Robin Soderling and Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen will compete in the US$576,000 Thailand Open from September 21-28, said organising committee co-chairman Prasan Maleenont.
Former Australian Open champion Johansson’s best result at the Thailand Open was in 2004 when he lost to Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals.
The Swede, ranked 66th in the world, has won nine ATP Tour titles including the 2002 Australian Open where he beat Marat Safin in the final.
Soderling, who is currently ranked 34th, has reached two finals this year. In 2004, he was a quarter-finalist at the Thailand Open.
World number 37 Nieminen has twice made to the semi-finals in Bangkok in 2003 and 2005.
The Thailand Open will feature Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils, and former Grand Slam champions Marat Safin and Carlos Moya, plus Thai twins Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana who will be aiming to defend their doubles title.
