Thepchaiya the top amateur

’s Thepchaiya Un- became the kingdom’s sixth amateur when he won the IBSF ’s Snooker Championship by defeating ’s Gilcreest 11-7 at Rotaxhalle in , Austria

Thepchaiya (aka F ) picked up US$16,000 (about 600,000 ) in prize-money.

The Thai player got off to a slow start and was 3-1 down at one stage. But he rallied strongly and made the top break of the tournament with 143.

Previous Thai winners of the title are: James Wattana (1988), Noppadol Noppachorn (1991), Tai Pichit (1993), Sakchai -ngarm (1995) and Attasit Mahithi (2007).
