Reid fined at airport
TOR CHITTINAND
HANOI : Apart from being fined by Thai immigration for overstaying his visa, Thailand national team coach Peter Reid arrived in Hanoi yesterday in good spirits as his team prepared to take on Vietnam and North Korea in the T&T Cup.
Reid suffered a minor problem on leaving Bangkok when it was discovered his one month visa had expired, but things were quickly sorted out.
The T&T Cup competition has been reduced to three teams following the late withdrawal of Uzbekistan.
A large crowd and the press greeted Thailand when they landed in Hanoi.
Reid admitted he knew very little about the Vietnam side, but he was being assisted by Steve Darby, an English coach with considerable experience in Southeast Asia.
Reid said he was hoping his team would put in two strong performances.
“Both North Korea and Vietnam are strong sides, so it won’t be easy,” he said.
Thailand will play North Korea tomorrow and Vietnam on Saturday.
