Thai PM cancels trips to five ASEAN members
BANGKOK (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat has cancelled his familiarisation trips to five fellow member countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which were due to start next week, the prime minister’s personal secretary said Friday.
Boonsong Teriyapirom, a member of the ruling People Power Party and also a member of the House of Representatives representing the northern province of Chiang Mai, said Mr. Somchai, who assumed power on September 25, decided to cancel his trips to the five ASEAN neighnours due to the persisting political turmoil in Thailand.
Initially, Mr. Somchai was scheduled to visit Laos and Cambodia on October 12-13, Myanmar on October 15, Singapore on October 17 and Indonesia on October 22. (TNA)
