Thai health authorities recall 3 more melamine-tainted snacks from stores
BANGKOK, Oct 25 (TNA) — Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the removal of three more snack products imported from China and Malaysia from shelves throughout the country after they were found to contain melamine above maximum legal standards, said Dr. Pipat Yingseri, secretary-general of FDA.
The seized snacks are ‘Hajuku’ brand Chinese-manufactured strawberry cream stick biscuits with a concentration of melamine at 5.07 milligrammes per kilogramme, ‘Koala’ chocolate cream biscuits, also manufactured in China, with 3.16 mg/kg, and Julie’s peanut cream crackers made in Malaysia which contain 2.52 mg/kg, said Dr. Pipat.
Thailand’s FDA has set the safety limit at 2.5 mg/kg.
In order to ensure safety for consumers, Dr. Pipat said, Thai FDA officials had informed importers of the three snacks, provincial health authorities and retailers to withdraw the three products with excessive melamine from shelves nationwide. (TNA)
