Compensation plan for October 7 victims to be proposed to cabinet
BANGKOK, Oct 24 (TNA) – The committee charged to determine compensation for victims of the October 7 street violence at Parliament will propose to the cabinet to award compensation of Bt100,000-500,000 to relatives of each dead victim.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, agreed that the initial compensation will be about Bt100,000-500,000 for the families of each victim while the amount of compensation for the injured has already been earlier allocated, according to Director-General Panita Kambhu of the Department of Social Development and Welfare, a committee member.
More details will be revealed after the cabinet approval expected on Oct 28.
The director-general said that the processes to award the financial compensation to victims and their relatives were expected to be completed within 90 days of Cabinet approval.
Deputy Government Spokeswoman Suparat Nakboonnam said the amount of compensation money can be changed during the cabinet meeting but the committee firstly planed to seek 56 million baht from the government budget.
Both police and other government personnal and victims from the public will be awarded equal compensation, she said, adding that children of the death victims will receive scholarships to finish bachelor’s degrees in university while victims who suffer chronic injuries will be considered on a case by case basis.
