A shocking assault
Electrical accidents are not as scary for Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) technicians as a user who fails to pay his power bill.
Three PEA officials in Samut Prakan were beaten up by a group of ruffians on Wednesday after they cut off the electricity to an apartment in Bang Phli district because its owner had not paid the bill.
Santi Nimla-or, the apartment owner, admitted to police that he ordered his men to attack the three officials _ Montree Phonpho, 38, Somboon Churojana, 42, and Sai Kerdsaeng, 51.
Mr Santi said cutting the power had upset a number of people living in the apartment, who directed their anger at him. To calm these people down, he illegally diverted electricity from his nearby ice-making factory to the apartment.
The PEA officials detected the unlawful switch and cut the electricity to the factory too.
Mr Santi eventually agreed to pay his electricity bill, so the three technicians were dispatched to the factory to re-connect the power.
When they saw the PEA workers, Mr Santi and his men circled them and threw punches at them.
”I was so stressed after being blasted by them,” said Mr Santi before giving a wai to the three victims to apologise. The police also ordered him to pay a 1,000-baht fine for assaulting the workers.
Flooding can cause many ailments in many forms _ skin diseases, diarrhoea, flu, even monkey bites.
Ayutthaya officials have spoken of their concern about monkeys roaming community areas searching for food after floods ravaged their habitats and food sources.
The food some villagers always give them has also sharply dropped off as they too have been badly hit by the flooding.
The officials’ fears about the monkeys were realised yesterday when a big, hungry monkey rambled into a village in Uthai district and tried to attack people.
Saichon Kasiphan, a 36-year-old worker, volunteered to help others catch the primate with a big net. As he put his arms out to seize the frightened monkey, it suddenly sank its sharp teeth into his arms, several times.
The volunteer monkey-catcher sustained serious wounds to his arms. He was rushed to hospital. The villagers did eventually catch the hungry monkey and place it in a cage, but it later managed to break free.
Dealer can’t keep mouth shut
Namkang Petchrit, a 21-year-old drug dealer, discovered the real taste of methamphetamine when she put 10 pills in her mouth in an attempt to hide them from police.
Saraburi police arrived at Mrs Namkang’s house in Wang Muang district on Wednesday after they arrested her husband, Chamlong, for having two methamphetamine tablets, which are known as ya ba in Thai.
Frightened by the police raid, Mrs Namkang threw 10 ya ba pills into her mouth and chewed them in a bid to destroy the evidence. But the drugs tasted so bad and so bitter she had to spit them out after a few seconds. The couple were charged with drug offences.
Rescuers need to be rescued
Two rescuers had to be rescued themselves after an exchange of gunfire between two rival rescue groups in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Rescuers Arthit Sartsara, 20, and Boriphat Noppong, 26, of the Siam Ruam Jai Foundation received serious gunshot wounds after scuffling with their counterparts from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation in Kannayao district.
The shooting took place outside the Nopparatana Rajathani Hospital after the two rescue workers brought in a student injured in a brawl. They told police that one of six Ruam Katanyu Foundation rescuers fired several bullets at them.
However, witnesses said the two Siam Ruam Jai Foundation rescuers approached the group in an intimidating manner, so Ruam Katanyu Foundation members retaliated with a gun.
Police said they are still investigating and gave no further details due to the conflicting evidence given by the two wounded rescuers and witnesses.
