Army chief discuss riot with military top brass
The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, Gen Anupong Paochinda, on Tuesday called a meeting with the military top brass to analyse and evaluate the mass demonstrations led by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in front of the parliament and other areas.
As the chairman of the joint committee responsible for monitoring the national situation, Gen Anupong held a meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, Gen Jiradej Kotcharat, together with other senior army officials and intelligence units to discuss the riot that broke out in front of the parliament in the morning.
Gen Anupong expressed confidence that the Royal Thai Police can control the situation, adding that Prime Minister and Defence Minister Somchai Wongsawat and Deputy Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh have not ordered the army to take any action yet.
