Apirak vows to make Bangkok a better place
Re-elected Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin from the Democrat party said he will push forward five of his policies, including the flood mitigation and prevention policy, to make Bangkok a better place to live.
While waiting for the Election Commission (EC) to approve his reappointment as the Bangkok governor, Mr Apirak said he will implement five polices that he announced during his election campaign.
The five policies include:
* Free standardised education for youths, aimed at promoting knowledge and goodness while reducing problems relating to narcotics and vices
* Provision of healthcare for people in Bangkok, such as setting up a healthcare network for elder people
* Renovation of Bangkok’s environment and utilities, such as canals and electric wires, together with lowering the amount of garbage
* Expansion of mass transport systems, such as constructing rail lines to Bangkok’s Thonburi side by the beginning of 2009
* Tourism promotion, such as expanding areas in different marketplaces and promoting new careers.
The policies will put an emphasis on public participation, Mr Apirak noted.
The Democrat member said he will also propose for an amendment of the Organisation of State Administration Act, in an effort to decentralise authority in Bangkok. He said such decentralisation would improve the management of mass transport system and public utilities.
Mr Apirak said he has an action plan to address flooding in the capital, and it will be carried out soon.
