Abhisit blames PM for political deadlock
Opposition Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on Wednesday accused Prime Minister and Defence Minister Somchai Wongsawat as the cause of the political deadlock.
Referring to Hong Kong-based Political & Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC)’s study on political and social risks among Asia-Pacific countries in 2009, which ranks Thailand the second riskiest country, Mr Abhisit criticised the premier for allowing the situation to lengthen.
He said Mr Somchai has yet to find solutions to the economic and political problems even though the Democrat party has continually presented suggestions to the government.
Mr Abhisit said the problem would still not be solved even if ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Sondhi Limthongkul decide to hold talks because it is too late.
He believed the meeting between four sides, namely the government, the opposition, the PAD and the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) can be fruitful if each side is open and has clear objectives, but it would mainly depend on the government and the PAD.
