Qantas passengers and crew suffer injuries in sudden altitude change

SYDNEY, Australia –– Qantas Airways says a number of passengers and crew sustained fract
ures and lacerations following a sudden change in altitude on the plane they were flying from Singapore to Perth.
The A330-300, carrying 303 passengers and 10 crew, was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon in Learmonth, Western Australia, the airline said in a statement.
The statement said there were no details yet as to what caused the altitude change.
Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio said 10 people sustained broken bones and severe cuts, while 30 others had minor injuries.
Qantas officials could not be reached for comment.
It is the latest in a string of issues to plague the Australian airline since one of its flights was forced to make an emergency landing in the Philippines in July after an oxygen tank exploded on board, ripping a gaping hole in the fuselage.
