PM : No behind arrest of key

BANGKOK, Oct 5 (TNA) - Thailand’s Prime Minister Wongsawat said on Sunday his government did not issue an order for police to arrest two key leaders of the anti-government People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), but said that the police had performed their duty lawfully.

Speaking to journalists in response to the arrest of retired Maj-Gen. Chamlong Srimuang after he left the compound to vote in the capital’s , the premier said PAD activist’s arrest was merely legal action by the police.

“There is no behind the arrest and the government has nothing to do with it,” according to the premier, who said that “the police had to execute the issued earlier by the court, otherwise they would be found to be negligent in their duties.”
