BMA : unofficial results for governor’s election expected at midnight Sunday
BANGKOK, Oct 4 (TNA) — Unofficial election results for the Bangkok governor’s voting Sunday will be announced as soon as midnight, according to Pongsak Semsan, permanent secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
Speaking Saturday after inspecting readiness at two polling booths on Bangkok’s outskirts, Mr. Pongsak said he expected that as many as 70 per cent of eligible voters in Bangkok would cast ballots.
But he admitted worry about the possibility of rain which could prevent voters from leaving their homes to vote between 8am-3pm.
Requests have been made to the Royal Thai Police to assign personnel and guard polling stations while votes are counted after the booths are closed as representatives of election candidates are expected to turn up to watch the vote counting, he said.
City Hall, the BMA headquarters where votes will be sent from all the Bangkok’s 50 district offices to be compiled for the final count, is abuzz with activity as Mr. Pongsak said 20 computers have been installed while two giant LCD screens have erected in front of the municipal offices.
Unofficial results for each candidate will appear on the screens on a steady basis to inform enthusiastic watchers.
Sixteen candidates are contesting the four-year term Bangkok governorship. (TNA)
