Thaksin, wife apply for political asylum in Britain
Britain’s Home Office has confirmed that deposed prime minister and former owner of Manchester City Football Club Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Potjaman have applied to seek political asylum and stay in Britain, according to Britain’s Sunday Mirror.
The ousted premier and his wife fled to Britain in August after skipping bail and failing to report for hearings on their corruption charges, prompting the Thai authority to issue them arrest warrants.
However, Pol Lt Col Thaksin claimed that he and his family could not get a fair trial in Thailand, and that he was concerned about his life.
In September, he sold Manchester City to the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG) and profited three billion baht from the sale.
