Export ASP of Taiwan-made Folding Bikes Hit Record High
Taipei, Oct. 15, 2008 (CENS)-Export average selling prices (ASP) of Taiwan-made folding bicycles hit a record high of US$312 in the first eight months, representing the constant quality upgrades.
Statistics compiled by Taiwan Bicycle Exporters` Association (TBEA) showed that a total of about 39,000 folding bikes were exported from Taiwan in the first eight months year, up 2.37% from the same period of 2007, but the export value saw a 11.75% increase.
With advantages as better portability (easy to carry onto public transports) and better theft-resistance, folding bikes are increasing popular in Taiwan and attracted more assembled-bike makers to develop newer, better, and higher-end products for both domestic and export.
Companies like Giant Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Merida Industry Co., Ltd., Pacific Cycles Inc., KHS etc. have been launching more high-end folding bikes with simplified styling, dual-suspension, and 27-speeds, all of which make them rival in performance to most traditional bikes.
According to TBEA, the top-five export markets for Taiwan-made upscale folding bikes include Europe Union (EU, 21,000 units), South Korea (5,800), Norway (3,900), Japan (2,900), and the U.S. (2,300). Export volumes to Japan and Korea enjoyed the highest growths of 163% and 49%, respectively.
