Four conveners were on Monday appointed to expedite and design the academic structure, administration, business plan and infrastructure of the proposed SAARC University.
The sub-committee of the inter-governmental steering committee of the eight SAARC countries today met in India and appointed the conveners. The sub-committee, comprising the UGC chairman of each country, is in-charge of implementing the project.
“Today we appointed conveners for four task forces on the areas of academic, infrastructure, governance and legal structure and business plan. Earlier, four other experts were appointed to give expert opinion on these areas. Now these experts and conveners will prepare the roadmap for establishment and functioning of the institution,” Press Trust of India reported quoting Prof G K Chadha, CEO of the proposed university.
The conveners are Pema Thinley from Sri Lanka for academics, S I Gilani from Pakistan for infrastructure, Yubaraj Sangroula from Nepal for governance and legal structure and Imran Rehman from Bangladesh for business plan.
The conveners and experts will meet in New Delhi in next 15 days time where they will chart out a detailed plan for the university, he said.
They will prepare a cost plan for the project which will be placed before the inter-governmental steering committee meeting to be held in Dhaka in the first week of December.
The cost plan will specify the contributions to be made by each of SAARC nations, he said.
