SINGAPORE : Local humanitarian organisation Mercy Relief is leading a relief team to flood-stricken Yemen next week.
The team will bring medical supplies worth S$30,000, as well as personal hygiene kits consisting of toothbrushes, soap and towels.
The supplies will be distributed with the help of Singaporean students in the area.
The team will be based about 700 kilometres from Sanaa, the capital of Yemen.
Singapore’s Ambassador to Yemen, Helmi Talib, will accompany the team.
More than 180 are believed to have died in the floods and 3,500 left homeless.
Funds to help relief efforts are being raised by various organisations in Singapore, including the Arab Association and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). - CNA/ms
