3 special education teachers receive outstanding teacher awards

SINGAPORE : Three teachers on Friday received awards for their efforts in educating children with special needs.

One is a trained dancer, while the other two teachers have more than a decade of teaching experience each.

Ms Wong Geok Choo, a trained dancer, was a junior college teacher before joining Pathlight School.

The school’s principal said Ms Wong, the assistant head at Pathlight, has honed the art of giving.

Ms Chui Kit May from Chaoyang School said she will never be bored teaching pupils with autism.

Heading Chaoyang School’s Department for Pupil Well-being, Ms Siti Anita has seen her track and field pupils go on to compete in the Special Olympic Games overseas.

The three teachers received their awards from the Senior Minister of State for Education and National Development Grace Fu.

Two schools were also awarded for innovation.

Chaoyang School was recognised for its internet cafe, which teaches life skills that students can apply in real situations.

Rainbow Centre-Yishun Park School was recognised for its resource library, which enables teachers to share knowledge and improve teaching strategies.
