TAIPING : How does one celebrate the of one of the country’s oldest government schools?
For old pupils of the School here, the past six months have been a flurry of activity, with students and old boys organising a procession in the city streets, a golf tournament, publishing a and preparing an fit for royalty.

The dinner on Saturday was graced by of Perak, Raja Tuanku Bainun, Raja Nazrin Shah, Raja Puan Besar Tuanku , Raja Dihilir Raja Jaafar Musa and Raja Puan Muda Raja Shahar Shah.

“The school has had among its alumni two sultans, ministers and Singapore’s former president, Yusof Ishak,” said Dr Abdul Abdullah, adding that Tuanku Bainun had also taught at for two years.
Sultan Azlan also launched the , Taiping: The First Century. Proceeds from the sale of the 1,000 copies of the book would be channelled to a trust fund for the school, said chairman and Media Prima Bhd chairman Datuk Abdul Mutalib Mohamed Razak.

An oil painting of the school’s facade by old boy and retired art teacher Abdul Razak Osman, was presented to as a memento of the evening.

Also present on the occasion were Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, Boyd McCleary and state Education, Local Government, Housing, Public Transport Committee chairman Nga Kor Ming.
