Rebranding Of Kedah MIC A Success
SUNGAI PETANI, Oct 28 (Bernama) — The rebranding of Kedah MIC aimed at strengthening the party with participation from youths had resulted in 120 new branches with 6,000 members in Lunas and Bukit Selambau.
Kedah MIC chairman Datuk V. Saravanan said its efforts in resolving problems faced by the Indian community had boosted MIC’s membership to 40,000 in 300 branches.
This was necessary as the party leadership had to take responsibility for losing the Lunas and Bukit Selambau state seats allocated by Barisan Nasional(BN).
“Following the loss of the two seats in the general election on March 8, MIC had made strong efforts to regain the trust of about 300,000 Indians in Kedah to continue supporting BN,” he told Bernama here today.
Saravanan said the rebranding entailed restructuring at state, division and branch, including the Putera and Puteri wings by giving them the room to voice issues.
The Indians main concern was unemployment in 86 estates in Kedah due to the influx of foreign workers, opportunity to work in government and education.
He was confident that with the rebranding, BN would be able to wrest Kedah from Pakatan Rakyat in the next general election.
