Police Collect RM7.45 Million In Traffic Summonses Via E-Payment
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) — The police collected RM7.45 million in summonses since the electronic payment or e-payment was introduced in September, last year to make it easier for traffic offenders to pay summonses.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan hoped that with e-payment, offenders would settle the remainder RM1.2 billion in unpaid summonses.
With the e-payment system, traffic offenders need not bring cash when dealing with summons payment counters located at not only police stations, but also shopping malls, he said.
Musa was speaking to reporters after launching an e-payment system at a shopping centre here Monday.
The IGP said that so far, 85 summons payment counters had been opened nationwide and only required payment using credit or debit cards.
He added that with the e-payment system, there would also be less cases of traffic offenders asking for a reduction on their summonses.
Nevertheless, he said the police would entertain appeals regarding summonses, with reasonable excuses.
Musa added that the police were also considering other payment methods such as through the internet and ATM machines.
