Perak Uncovers Syndicates Selling State Land
IPOH, Oct 21 (Bernama) — The Perak government has uncovered several syndicates which sell government land for agriculture purposes in the Batang Padang and Manjung districts.
The land was alleged to have been sold for between RM500 and RM5,000 per acre.
State Education, Local Government, Housing and Public Transport Committee Chairman Nga Kor Ming said activities of the syndicates were discovered several months ago.
He believed not less than 10 people had been duped into buying the land.
“We hope the victims will lodge police reports and also report the matter to the state government so that investigations can be conducted to identify the mastermind,” he told reporters at his office today.
Nga said instructions had been issued to the affected Land District Office to investigate the matter and take action against those who had illegally occupied government land.
He said members of the syndicates had duped the victims by convincing the latter that the Pakatan Rakyat state government would not take action against them.
The message they gave the victims was that they would get ownership of the land by paying a certain amount of fine or penalty to the state government, he added.
He advised the public not to be duped by members of the syndicates, who also used the names of several state executive council members to convince the victims.
