No Directive From Perlis Government To Defame
KANGAR, Nov 13 (Bernama) — The Perlis government has never issued any directive to special officers and staff of the human building unit in the Menteri Besar’s office to defame certain leaders, the state assembly was told Thursday.
Rather, the officers were tasked with fostering relations and enhancing noble values to create unity and harmony, state Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Jafperi Othman said.
The state government believed that these officers and staff had discharged their duties effectively, he said in reply to Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (BN-Tambun Tulang) who wanted to know why there are cases of former elected representatives, who were appointed as special officers and staff of the unit, being involved in defamation.
Denying that there was any defamation, Jafperi said the unit’s officers and staff were constantly given training and courses to improve the quality of their service.
Meanwhile, state Agriculture and Agrobased Industry Committee chairman Sabry Ahmad said that the new phase of the chilli cultivation through fertigation project which started last December was stopped to re-assess its feasibility.
Replying to Khairi Hasan (BN-Mata Ayer), he said 68,000 polybags had been provided for Sungai Batu Pahat and 32,000 for the nursery at the Bukit Temiang agricultural complex for the project.
State Land Lang, Forestry and Enforcement Committee chairman Mat Rawi Kassim said the teak cultivation adoption system which was introduced in 1996 was no longer active because the teak trees had matured and no longer needed intensive manintenance.
Newly planted teak trees like those in Jalan Teras Umn, Jalan Behor Mentalon and Jalan Kuala Perlis were maintained by the Forestry Department, he said in reply to Khairi.
