Najib Wants Wanita Umno To Resolve Power Transition Issue Without Undermining Integrity Of Movement
PETALING JAYA, Nov 18 (Bernama) — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today he hoped that Wanita Umno would resolve its power transition issue without undermining its integrity.
He said the differences of opinion with regard to the power transition should be overcome as soon as possible because the Umno leadership did not wish to see the integrity of Wanita Umno undermined as this would indirectly weaken Umno itself.
Some quarters wanted the plan for transition of power (in June next year) proposed by Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz to be implemented while others want the process to be expedited (to March), he told reporters after opening the Asia Pacific Water Conference 2008 in Subang Jaya near here.
“As such, Wanita Umno should come up with a solution. If they are not making any headway through negotiations, then they must figure out the best way to resolve the problem. Whatever the decision, it is hoped that it will not undermine the integrity of Wanita Umno,” he said.
Both Rafidah and Wanita Umno vice-head Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil have garnered enough nominations to contest the post of Wanita Umno chief in the party elections in March. Shahrizat also has enough nominations to contest the post of vice-head.
