SHIZUOKA–A 25-year-old policeman died Wednesday after apparently shooting himself with his pistol at a police station in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, police said.
The unidentified policeman was found with chest wounds in the first-floor toilet of the police station at about 7:10 a.m. He was taken to a hospital but later confirmed dead.
The police officer was found with a pistol in his right hand, while a note with the word “sorry” was discovered nearby. The police are treating the case as suicide and are looking for a possible motive.
According to the police, the policeman, who was off-duty Monday and Tuesday, reported for his Wednesday shift before 7 a.m. A gunshot was heard shortly after he was issued with his pistol. - (Oct. 16, 2008)
