Kanji mulled for domain names

The is studying the possible use of kanji and kana for Japan as a in .

Currently “.” is the code assigned by the and Numbers, which manages domain on the Internet.

The and plans to allow for Japan’s because is considering addresses in characters other than the .

The ministry hopes to begin the system in mid-2009 after settling on new codes in Japanese and selecting an entity to oversee the registration of such domain names, the officials said.
