The Yomiuri Shimbun
NARA–The 60th Annual Exhibition of Shoso-in Treasures ended here Monday after receiving 263,765 visitors over 17 days at the Nara National Museum.
It was the second highest attendance in the exhibition’s history, following the 283,515 visitors marked in 2006, when the event lasted for 20 days.
Among distinguished visitors to the annual exhibition–this year featuring 69 items preserved at the Shoso-in repository–were the Emperor and Empress and Princess Takamado, who has visited the exhibition for the past three years.
On the princess’ arrival at the museum at about 11 a.m. Sunday, she was greeted by Kenichi Yuyama, executive director of the Nara National Museum; Kazuki Sugimoto, director of the Imperial Household Agency’s Office of the Shoso-in Treasure House; and Jin Nakamura, president of The Yomiuri Shimbun, Osaka.
The princess then viewed exhibits for about 80 minutes, guided by Sakae Naito, associate director of the museum’s Curatorial Division.
