Youths pay for minor errors
24 Oct 2008, Supriya Bhardwaj, TNN
CHANDIGARH: They erred as young boys but have to pay for it in their youth. With one’s past rarely failing to catch up, it’s hardly surprising then that two men in their 20s have been asked by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to atone for cheating and forgery they committed while taking their class X board exam five years ago.
Not going too far from where the two belonging to well-do-to families, along with seven others, deviated from the path of righteousness, the JJB ordered them each to pay the fees of a needy student who would be appearing for his/her boards privately next March. “The punishment is more than they deserve. Actually, the direction to do community service is not a punishment in the first place. It’s a kind of reminder that they have social responsibilities. We have only put them on a path of reformation,” said JJB member Manju Bhalla.
