Give us a reason for the sack

NEW DELHI : One phone call changed our lives. That’s what sacked employees of Jet airways claimed on Wednesday, when most of them received termination letters from the company.
Bewildered and left nowhere to go, sacked employees, in protest, sat at the IGI airport from morning to late night hoping to have a word with the company management but were unable to do so. The employees will sit at the airport again on Thursday.
“My sister has been in Jet for the last three years. She was earlier in Kingfisher but moved to Jet because they promised a better pay and now she has lost her job. I joined Jet just seven months ago and I have been told my name is also on the termination list though I am yet to receive a termination letter,” said an airhostess, who did not want to be named.
Agitated employees who have received termination letters have decided to hold a protest at the airport till the company management gives them some answers on why they have been sacked. “The management is just hiding their faces from us and no one is telling us anything. Till a day ago, everything was normal and we were following our routine. All of a sudden we’ve been told that we’re jobless and no reason have been given to us. Just excuses. The company has some responsibility towards us. We’ve all signed contracts,” said 25-year-old Bhawna Sharma, an airhostess who also received a termination letter.
Added another affected employee Ankush: “We’re trying to pass on a message to the authorities that they can’t sack us without reason. They should at least keep us on hold till we find another job. No one from the company has spoken to us and we are completely clueless on what’s happening.”
Some sacked employees are trying to look at it optimistically. “The company is suffering huge losses so in such circumstances, they had no choice but to sack some employees. We’ve been given a month’s salary in advance and they have promised to call us back when the situation is back to normal. I am not taking part in any of the protests but looking at things more optimistically,” said Yagnik Kapoor (23), another sacked employee. Kapoor said he was now looking at making use of his hotel management degree for job opportunities, but others might not have the same advantage.
