In Brief : Talk to explore kiln site

Chhay Rachna, an archaeologist, will give a talk at the d’Extreme-Orient Centre next Thursday, October 23, about results of work at the Thnal Mrech kiln site at , 35 northeast of Siem Reap. This site has been known for more than a century as the only kiln site in the Angkor region, and its green-glazed pottery gave the name to the so-called Kulen-ware style.

Historically, the site was poorly studied and no took place until recently. In January 2007 and March 2008, the Department of and of the , together with the , worked on two of Thnal Mrech. The , in English and beginning at 6:30pm, will describe the archaeological works and some results, including suggestions of dates for the ranging from the mid-10th to early .
