Quran contestants advised to practice Islamic way of life

PRACTICE Islamic way of life , maintain good health and always pray to Allah (SWT) were the advice relayed to the participants of the 30th Al-Malik Abdul Aziz International Quran Recital and Interpretation Competition that is to be held in Mekah, Saudi Arabia.
At a briefing held yesterday for participants in the upcoming event at the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Hj Abdul Hafiez Hj Nuh Al-Hafiz, a former chaperon officer, advised participants to improve their memorisation of Quranic verses, sustain their quality of health while always seek guidance from Allah (SWT). In addition, he explained the various competition programmes as an early preparation for participants to familiarise themselves with the event.
Representing Brunei in this year’s competition are Mohammad Fakhrin Dato Hj Zainal, Muhammad Hidayatullah Sunazul Fikar Suip and Yusairi Asbol who would be competing in the 10 Juzuk Al-Quran, 20 Juzuk Al-Quran and 30 Juzuk Al-Quran events respectively.
Another officer, Hj Marzuki Hj Abdul Rahman took the time to explain to the participants the previous accomplishment’s attained by Bruneian participantsin past events.
He gave an example on how in a Quran memorisation competition held in Jordan last year, Brunei’s representatives won third and fourth place both in the male and female categories respectively.
In this year alone, Bruneians did the nation proud by securing a second and third place respectively in memorisation competitions held in Jakarta and Egypt respectively.
“It is hoped that this delegation will be able to follow in the foot steps of those who have succeeded in similar competitions and continue to popularise the country’s name to stand equal in the eyes of the world,” said Hj Marzuki.
Participants were also briefed on the judging aspects of the competition by Hj Abdul Rashid Hj Saad, who was a former judge at the 2007 competition. Some of the advice he gave were to take special attention on respective memorisation, hukum hakam tajwid and voice intonation.
To bless the ceremony, a doa selamat was read by Hj Abdul Rashid.
The Brunei delegation are scheduled to leave for Mekah this morning from the Brunei International Airport in Berakas.
Accompanying the students to the international-level competition is Muhd Ali Sabri Hj Yusof.
The competition will be held from 13-19 October and it is the 14th time Brunei is participating in this event. (JQR1)
