HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, yesterday launched Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) month-long convocation festival at the Chancellor Hall.
His Royal Highness, who is also UBD’s Pro-Chancellor, also launched the university’s revamped website.
Present to witness the launching were cabinet ministers, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, officers, staff and students of UBD.
For the last 19 years, the convocation festival has always been a time to instil the spirit of cooperation, dedication and commitment among UBD students in conducting activities within a week.
However, this year being two decades since UBD’s first graduates emerged, UBD plans to celebrate its achievements in the past, present and the anticipated future.
Themed “Celebrating the past, anticipating the future”, this year’s convocation festival will give stakeholders a chance to be involved in the growth and development of the university. In celebrating the future, UBD is currently re-establishing its image, using the festival as a platform for the marketing and rebranding of UBD and establish partnerships with the market in ensuring its continued relevance.
Annually, exhibitions and activities which include fun fairs, martial arts performances and cultural performance competitions, have been held as part of the programme for the convocation festival.
This year, the month-long festival will include collaborations beyond UBD staff and students, incorporating external agencies such as the private and government sectors, the community and the media.
Other major events include the Beach Festival at Muara beach scheduled for November 9 and Public Outreach Programme to be held on November 11-12 at The Mall in Gadong.
The public outreach programme will bring UBD to the public, showcasing students’ talents and holding activities such as fund raising, sports competition, student leadership forums, executive development programmes, Islamic parenting workshops, cartoon drawing and photography competitions.
