Competition on Quran recital for converts

A COMPETITION for Al-Quran recitation, memorisation of customary verses and da’wah songs for new converts was held yesterday by the Islamic Da’wah Centre, as part of its efforts in encouraging new converts to be active in learning the holy book.
This is the 28th competition that was organised by the centre’s Islamic and Conversion Guidance unit at the Islamic Da’wah Centre , and the competition was held to guide the participants towards the Quran as well as to nurture the talents of the new converts in the religon.
The competition also hoped to develop ‘penghafaz’ potential within the new converts and encouraged them to be effective in da’wah activities such as nasyid.
The winner for the male category of the Al-Quran recital category competition was Hj Hidayatullah Abdullah Ang whereas Hjh Juliana Abdul Wahid won for the female category. For the memorisation of customary Quranic verses, and Hj Muhammad Nikman Hj Muhammad Isa Nurul Rashidah Amirah Muhd Ali Arman won their respective categories.
The winner for the Da’wah song competition was the Nurul Islam Association, that were made up of nine female converts.
A representative from the group Bebuloh 2, who achieved the second runner-up position for the Da’wah song competition, told The Brunei Times that the group practised for 10 days prior to the competition and most members were students from all districts.
“Da’wah singing is an activity that has received great response this year as most youths participate in it and it was an overwhelming response this year,” said one of the participants who wished to remain anonymous.
The winners of the competition will be competing at the national level representing their groups and will be held in the Belait district this coming November.
Yesterday’s event also saw a joint performance by the Ar-Redzuan and Al-Fattah group that hails from Sungai Hancing.
Brunei-Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yussop Bakar, was present as guest of honour to present the prizes to the winners and to officiate this prestigious event.
