$28,000 donated to special needs people, welfare home residents

A TOTAL of $28,000 was donated to people with special needs and residents of the Welfare Housing Complex during yesterday’s Hari Raya celebration at Dewan Muhibbah in Berakas.

More than 300 teachers and students of Pusat Bahagia, an organisation for special needs people, and 34 Welfare Housing Complex residents attended the annual event organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Director of Community Development Datin Hjh Adina said that the event was to give officers of the ministry an opportunity to gather in celebrating Hari Raya with the teachers and students of Pusat Bahagia and the residents of the Welfare Housing Complex.

Present as guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Ahmad Hj Jumat, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who was accompanied by his wife, Datin Hjh Masna Hj Tuah.

During the event, the minister’s wife presented the Raya gift of $50 to each of the special needs people and Welfare Housing Complex inhabitants. The cash donation was collected from the National Welfare Fund and Handicapped Fund.

Representatives from 12 private companies were also present to distribute the donations to the respective recipients. In addition, Hari Raya gifts from the ministry’s employees were also distributed.

The celebration also saw stage performances by the ministry’s employees, as well as the special needs people and Welfare Housing Complex residents. (NJA1)
